I am informed that the pub closed in 2007 and changed into a noodle bar called Reku Zen.
The Head Brewer of Noakes & Co in the early 19th century was one Richard
Cox. Upon his retirement in 1820 Richard Cox and his wife, Ann, moved to
Colnbrook, Berks, where they pursued their love of horticulture and in
particular, growing apples. The result of their labours was a hybrid Ribston
Pippin/Blenheim Orange that we now call a Cox's Orange Pippin, which is now,
by far and away, Britain's favourite apple. (Above
information supplied by Rory Kehoe.)
