Not sure yet if this pub existed as a pub in 1891 and onwards as the head of the house in the census of 1891 and 1901 didn't speculate the people were licensed victuallers but had other trades.

Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser, 3 September 1870.

Annual licensing.

Spirit licences were also refused to the "Rose and Crown," Hadlow, the "Brown Jug," Hadlow, and the "Greyhound," Bow Beach.

Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser, Friday 19 October 1951.

Failed to stop.

Mrs. Mary Eileen McLoughlan, of the "Brown Jug," Tonbridge Road, Hadlow, was fined a total of £2 and ordered to pay £1 3s. costs for failing to stop after an accident and for failing to report the accident in Tonbridge High Street on August 4th.

It was stated that she collided with another car while trying to park and then drove away. The number of her vehicle was reported to the police and when seen she said she was in a hurry and could not see that she had caused any damage.

The wing of the other car was dented and scratched.

Kent & Sussex Courier, Friday 28 April 1967.

Mr. Edwards, of the "Brown Jug," Hadlow, has asked Tonbridge Rural Council weather an application for a change of use to a public house would be favourably received. The council has said that it would have no objection as long as the plan is accepted by Kent County Council.
