Kentish Gazette, 21 February 1854.

Suicide.

On Friday morning, between 8 and 9 o'clock, Mrs. Missing, of the "Bull's Head," went up stairs to call a lodger to breakfast.

On knocking at the bed-room door, and receiving no answer, she went down to inform her husband, who immediately proceeded up stairs, and the bed-room door not being fastened, he was horror struck to see the lodger lying partly in bed, with his head nearly severed from his body, from a wound in the throat, extending nearly from ear to ear, and which appeared to have been inflicted by a large clasp knife which was lying by the body. He had slept at the "Bull’s Head" the two previous evenings, but he was a stranger, and nothing was found on the body to identify him. He appeared about 42 years of age, was short, and rather stout, with sandy hair. He was respectably dressed in a black coat, with a dark figured satin waistcoat, checked tweed trowsers, black silk hat, drab coloured gloves, and a red silk handkerchief in his hat, long cotton drawers and white socks. He went to bed on Thursday evening between 10 and 11 o'clock, after having had some bread and cheese, and a pint of ale for his supper.
