It is believed that the pub was serving as early as the 16th century.

The "Elephant and Castle Inn" was the original site of the North limit of the town, where tolls were collected, the inn being built on the foundations of the Port Reeve's House.

The pub changed name to the "Ivy House" some time between 1950 and 1965.

South Eastern Gazette, 6 November, 1860.

From the Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser, Friday 17 June, 1927.

CAR HITS WINDOW.

Mrs. Margaret Walter, of Folkestone, was driving her car round Bordyke Corner at midnight on Thursday week to proceed down Tonbridge High Street, and in endeavouring to avoid a dog drew on to the pavement. The near side lamp hit the window pane of the "Elephant and Castle Inn," breaking the glass. The lamp of the car was also smashed but there were no personal injuries.
