I have reference to this pub from the Kentish Gazette or Canterbury Chronicle September 1768, when the paper advertised the sale of household furniture at Minster Abbey, on the Isle of Sheppey. It was stated that catalogues could be obtained from this public house. See Notes of 1768.

 

From the Kentish Gazette, Saturday, Nov 11 to Wednesday, Nov 15 1780.

NOTICE to CREDITORS.

WHEREAS EDWARD BEADLE, of Queenborough, in the Isle of Sheppey, and County of Kent, Blacksmith, hath this Day duly executed an Assignment of all his personal Estate and Effects to RICHARD WATTS, of Queenborough aforesaid, and WILLIAM BENNETT, of Faversham in the same County, two of his Creditors (in Trust for themselves and the rest of his Creditors) a Counterpart of which Assignment is now deposited in the Hands of Mr. DYNE, Attorney at Law at Milton next Sittingbourne, in Kent to whom all Persons, having any Demands on the said EDWARD BEADLE, are requested to bring an Account of the same on or before 1st Day of December next; and at the same time to execute the said Counterpart of the said Assignment, otherwise they will be excluded all Benefit thereof. And the said Creditors are further requested to meet at the House of MITCHELL COOK, the "Sign of the George," in Queenborough aforesaid, on Friday the 29th Day of December next, at Ten o'Clock in the Forenoon of the same Day, when and where there will he a Dividend made of the Monies to arise by Sale of the said assigned effects.

And all Persons, who are any Ways indebted to the said EDWARD BEADLE, are desire forthwith to pay same to the said RICHARD WATTS, one of the said Assignees, (and to no other Person) otherwise they will be specially sued for the Recovery thereof.

My current work on the Queenborough Brewery has also thrown up the fact that the "George" became the "Castle"/"Queenborough Yacht Club."
