This area was named after Kingsley House which was in this part of the town until 1855. Kingsley House was the home of John Brenchley, a former owner of a lower Brewery during the early years of the nineteenth century. A smaller public house, the "Marquis of Lorne," was also on this Estates until it became redundant in 1915. There was a public house called the "General Kingsley" in Week Street in 1939, possibly named after the general who owns Kingsley House until 1769.ss Royal Closed, date unknown and converted into flats.
