Southeastern Gazette, 30 August 1853.

Petty Sessions, Saturday. (Before Sir P. H. Dyke, Bart., J. Chapman, and H. Johnston, Esqrs.)

This being the annual licensing meeting, the usual licenses were granted for the division, being 59 in number, and no complaint mode against either of them.

Mr. Arnold, of Gravesend, applied for a license for the "Lamb," in Stone parish, occupied by Mr. John Jarvis, an old and respected inhabitant of that place. A memorial was produced signed, by the Archdeacon, the curate, churchwardens and overseers, T. Colyer, Esq., and every person of influence in the neighbourhood. Mr. Arnold stated the nearest licensed house was a quarter of a mile and the furthest a mile, and pleaded very earnestly for his client. The Bench refused the application as on a former occasion, there being four or five licensed houses within a quarter of a mile of the spot, at the same time complimenting Mr. Arnold for his exertions.

After the death of Frederick French the pub was inherited by Arthur Bartholomew who was his son-in-law.

The pub sadly closed some time in the 1990's and was situated on Charles Street at the end of Thames Road alongside the rail line to Johnson's Wharf. Information supplied by Derek Bourne.

As the information is found or sent to me, including photographs, it will be shown here.

Thanks for your co-operation.
