Ind Coope & Co Ltd purchased a Messuage that was previously the "Maid of the Mill" from Budden & Biggs Brewery Ltd by conveyance and assignment dated 23 March 1931. The pub was not licensed at the time, and had closed in 1903.

The pub was named after Lenworth Mill (formerly Padsole Mill,) down the Padsole Lane, and this was demolished in 1903.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

All emails are answered.

From an email received 7 January 2023.

I’m researching my links with the Porter family in Kent. I have a copy of the accounts of the Will of the late John Claude Porter of Maidstone. In it gives sales of freehold properties he owned, one of which given as “Maid of the Mill,” Maidstone, sold in December 1939 for £275. I am assuming albeit could be wrongly, that this is the same property you are looking into. I know he was licensee of the "Sun Inn," Maidstone for a number of years before enlisting for military duties in WW1. He seems to have been quite a character from what I am learning and owned a number of freehold properties in Maidstone and elsewhere.

I have no idea when he purchased "Maid of Mill," all I know, is the sale in 1939 he having died in March of that year.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Rosemarie Greenhalf.
