Nevill Crest and Gun sign

Above sign, date unknown. The words "Ne Ville Velis" is the Griffin family motto that translates from Latin to mean "Do not wish anything base," meaning to "never have evil thoughts." This was the personal motto of Thomas Neville 1544-1614, Master of trinity College and Dean of Canterbury Cathedral, the phrase incorporating his own name, Neville.

After being closed for some time I am informed that it reopened again on 21st December 2011.

Listed for some reason as in Royal Tunbridge Wells, which is certainly in Kent, but situated in a village called Edridge, which is in fact in East Sussex, so I'll not be researching this pub any further than I have at present. Less of course someone wishes to send me information.

All emails are answered.
