Fatal Accident to a Boy.

An inquest was held at the "Prince Albert," opposite the railway station, on Friday last, before J. N. Dudlow, Esq., on the body of a boy, aged 14, named Wood or Lucas, whose death had been caused by a piece of timber falling on him, on the previous Tuesday. It appeared that some timber was being unloaded at the railway wharf, and the deceased stood looking on, when a piece weighing about two tons rolled from the tug on to his back. His screams called attention to his precarious position, when it was found that his back was injured. Mr. Cooke, surgeon, who was called to see the poor lad, at the wharf, said that he found him severely contused on the loins, thighs, and arms, but no bones broken, and he had no doubt that he had received some internal injury also. On Wednesday morning the deceased was in a state of collapse, and when he arrived at his house he found that he was dead.

Verdict, "Accidental death."

PROBATE.

Frances William Chalklin of "Prince Albert Inn," Vale road Tonbridge, died 23 October 1932. Probate London 17 November to Emily Eva Chalklin widow. Effects £582 5s 2d/Probate.

From the Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser, 11 February, 1949.

Opposition to the granting of a full licence to Alexander Lovett, "Prince Albert," Tonbridge, was registered by Mr. P. Rendall, for Mr. W. J. Balch, licensee of the "Angel Hotel," Tonbridge, and of the owners, but the application was granted.

The pub sat empty for a couple of years around 1980 before it was demolished to make way for the new Sainsburys, Bentals and Angel Centre Leisure Centre (local authority owned). Specifically the pub was demolished to make way for the petrol station and some of the parking there today. The new store opened in 1982.
