The building gained a Grade 2 listing on 26 April 1968.

The name is given to honour the six bells found at the nearby All Saints Church which were hung in 1723. The original building was damaged by fire in the 1800s and was later rebuilt as a private house, still called Six Bells. That house was almost totally destroyed in 1907 by another fire and what remained still standing was renovated and rebuilt around the remains. The current owners tell me that their sitting room still retains some of the original timbers, beams, fireplace and possibly some of the windows. This building is still called the Six Bells but does not supply beer any longer.
