Substantiated by 1871, and part of the tied estate of Dartford brewers C N Kidd & Son, whose brewery is just visible behind the pub in the old photograph. Ownership passed to Courage when they took over Kidd's in 1937. It remained a Courage house until its closure in 1966 and after remaining closed for a few years it eventually reopened as Dartford's first curry house. Today (2020) called Kent Curry.
