The pub was formerly known as the "Downs Tavern" and changed name in 2011.

Hello Paul;

I was just reading a newspaper article about the "Down Tavern" at 5 Culverden Down dated December 14, 2012. It refers to the purchase of the tavern in 2011 by James Watson who renamed it The "Trading Post." The licensed victuallers of the place as of Nov. 2011 are Mr and Mrs Dalgleish.

The article says the tavern was closed for 3 yrs before Watson bought it (2008-2011); and that the "Downs Tavern" in 2011 was 150 yrs old and it used to be called the "Elephant and Castle" owned by the Kelsey Brewery. The article refers to a Joe Hoare and his father Peter Hoare who bought the "Elephant and Castle" in a derelict state in the 1970's apparently.

Between 2020 and 2022 the pub changed name again to the "Tiger Tavern," and was owned by James Watson.
