PETTY SESSIONS.
Before the Revs. J Poore, D.D., and G. B. Moore, E. Twopenny, Esq.,
W. Bland, Esq, and J. D. Dyke, Esq.
William French of the "Wheatsheaf" beer house, Mile Town, was
summoned for opening his house for the sale of beer, on Sunday
morning August 21st, at eight o’clock. Mrs. French appeared for her
husband and denied the charge. Sergeant Ovenden on being sworn
stated that he visited the defendant’s house at eight o’clock on the
morning in question, and found a man at the bar, drinking beer from
a pint pot, while Mrs. French stood on the door step, apparently
keeping watch. Mrs. French then declared that the beer had been
drawn on Saturday night.
Fined £1 and costs.
