The "Canterbury Swan"  used to be the "Swan" and the "Canterbury Bell." Both were closed in 1956, with the "Swan" becoming a private house and the "Canterbury Bell" being demolished. The new pub built on the site combined both names, and the sign depicts the graceful bird superimposed on a bishop's mitre.
