54 (24) New King Street
St. Paul
Deptford
Above painting by J T Wilson, 1800s. |
I am informed that the pub closed in the 1899 and has since been
demolished.
However the Kentish Mercury says it was a beer house under consideration
for closure due to redundancy in 1908.

A Battle at the "Cape of Good Hope."
Selena Needham, a prostitute, of Old King Street, Deptford, appeared in answer
to a summons charging her with assaulting Caroline Dowsett, another girl of the
same class, who stated that on Saturday night last, she went into the "Cape" for
a quartern of gin, when she saw the defendant, who struck her three times.
Ten witnesses were called, and in answer to Mr. Traill, said that they were all
prostitutes, and in the "Cape" at the time the assault was committed.
Mr. Traill told the Inspector to acquaint the landlord of the fact; and fined
the defendant 10s.
