Originally known as the "Market House." Date of name change certainly by 2018 after being bought by Shepherd Neame with a £900K renovation.

The street name of Earl's Lane can be found recorded as early as 1599 but later was changed to Bullock Lane as it then served as the town's livestock market which was transferred in 1826 to Fairmeadow, however, by 1823 the name changed again to Earl Street.
