Alarming Fire at Deptford.

On Tuesday last shortly after twelve o’clock, a fire of a very alarming character broke out on the premises belonging to Mr Hunt, "Fox Tavern," King street, New Town, Deptford. The fire was ultimately subdued, but not until the building and furniture was considerably damaged. Too much praise cannot be given for the prompt attendance of the engines from Messrs. Penn's and the Dockyard, also the valuable assistance rendered by several of the neighbours. Insured in the Monarch and Globe offices.

From the Borough of Greenwich Free Press, 26 March, 1859.

John Groom, a potman, of the "Fox," King street, Deptford, attempted suicide by cutting his throat, on Sunday night last.
