It is believed that the pub was previously called the "Victoria" and changed name some time between 1881 and 1891.

The "Fruiterer's Arms" is in an area still well-wooded compared to some parts of Kent, but when it first traded Crockenhill was a tiny settlement surrounded by dense woodland. Fruit growing, especially damsons, brought much prosperity to the community there in the late nineteenth century, as local poor people sold them at market to help raise their rent money.

Locals who frequented the pub also use to refer to it as "The Mudhole."

I am informed that the pub was closed and demolished in 2013.
