Merion Jones informs me that multiple references in Pepys diaries to him having dinner at the "Globe" in Deptford in the 1660s usually just after visiting the Kings Yard - now Convoys Wharf - which is 100 yards from that "Globe." I wonder if it was rebuilt on the same site?

It has also been addressed as Lower Road in 1826 and Broomfield Place in 1840.

In March 1841 it appears that Mary Speering had her license changed or renewed, for one for the premises next door, so either the premises was extended or one closed and another opened.

This building closed as a pub in 1986 and as of 2007 was operating as another damn Coral's betting office.

On Monday last, an inquest was held at the "Globe tavern," Deptford, on view of the body of Mr. Henry Burgess, proprietor of the chemical works, near Black Horse Bridge, and Henry Foskett, a man in his employ.

Verdict, "suffocation from accidental causes."

South Eastern Gazette, 31 January, 1860.

DEPTFORD.—Loss of Two Lives by Fire.

On Tuesday afternoon last, C. J. Carttar, Esq., coroner, held an inquiry at the "Globe Tavern," lower Deptford-road, into the circumstances attending the death of Mr. Henry Burgess, aged 41, tar distiller, and Henry Foskett, aged 42, a working man, who met their deaths at a fire which, occurred at a pitch and tar manufactory, situated on the banks of the Surrey Canal, at Deptford, and belonging to the first-named deceased, on Saturday morning week.

The jury returned a verdict that the deceased met their deaths from suffocation and other injuries received at the above fire.
