From the Borough of Greenwich Free Press, 7 February 1863.
Walter Halverson, of Deptford, brickmaker, was brought up on remand on a charge
of stealing a valuable dog, the property of Stephen Creed, engineer, of Addey
Street, Deptford, the value of £5.
A little boy, a witness, stated he saw him take up the dog and carry it to the
"King's Arms," where he remained about one hour, he was then seen to take the
dog away up Church Street, and traced to Beckingham, in Kent, where he offered
it for sale for 15s. to some men in a stable.
Mr. White, of Beckenham, proved the prisoner was the man who offered the dog for
sale. Mr. Triall said it was clear to him the prisoner was the man who stole the
dog, and fined him £10. or three months hard labour.
