On bank of river Belvedere Marshes
The pub was built around 1862 down a track, now Norman Road, at the end of Picardy Manorway. It was next to the 'Thames Fish Guano and Oil Works" which probably meant the beer garden wasn't as popular as others in the district, as well as being down river of the Crossness Sewage Works! For many years it was run by the Gordon family and in 1894 Benjamin Gordon was fined £25 for illegally supplying alcohol to the staff at Crossness. A fire in February 1912 nearly put an end to the pub but fortunately the insurance covered the costs of rebuilding. In 1920 it was transferred from Russell's, Gravesend Brewery to Messrs Kidd of Dartford. The pub was bombed on the 15/16 October 1940 and was afterwards demolished and not rebuilt.
