At present the only reference to this pub has been from Pigot's directory, which gave the address of Jewry Street and listed it as Taverns and Public Houses.

I have a feeling that W Friar and William Prior are one and the same and that Mary Frier was his wife; however, I don't know the correct spelling of their Surname yet.

Kentish Gazette, 6 May, 1806.

DIED.

Last night, Mr. Wm. Gill, landlord of the "Orange Tree" public-house, in this city.

From the Kentish Gazette, 6 September 1836.

DEATHS.

Last week, in Northgate, Canterbury, Mrs. Fryer, formerly of the "Orange Tree," Jewry Lane.

From the Kentish Gazette 10 April 1838.

An inquest was held on Friday last, at the "Orange Tree," in this city, before Mr. T. T. DeLasaux, coroner, on the body of James Stone, many years sexton of the parish of St. Andrew, who committed suicide on the morning of that day by hanging himself from a beam in a loft. It appeared from the evidence of several respectable witnesses, who knew the deceased, that in the month of August last he lost his wife, since which time he has been in a low and desponding way, frequently talking very incoherently. The jury, under the circumstances, returned a verdict of "Lunacy."
