Tiger Moths, small two-man De Havilland bi-planes, were used for training purposes there.

Today (2016) the premises is operating as one of the Flaming Grill chain of pubs.

 A tiger Moth flying over the "Tiger Moth," the new inn near Rochester airfield which was opened recently. "Tiger Moth" is a new public house close to Rochester airfield. At the opening ceremony on April 14th it's inn sign was unveiled by Colonel R. L. Preston, Secretary of the Royal Aero Club, as he sat in the cockpit of a Tiger Moth. The aircraft had previously been landed on the road near the airfield and then pushed into position at the inn.

Colonel R. L. Preston, Secretary General of the Royal Aero Club, takes a drink in a Tiger Moth, having opened a new public house in Kent named after this type of aircraft. After have flown over the pub, Colonel Preston was pushed down the road from the nearby Rochester Airport and unveiled the new sign from the cockpit.

Tiger Moth pub in Chatham forced to close after suspected arson.

The Tiger Moth pub has been forced to shut today following a suspected arson attack.

Police say they were called just after 11.20pm last night to reports of a fire at the pub in Highview Drive, Chatham.

They say no injuries were reported but the fire is being treated as suspicious and inquiries are ongoing.

The Tiger Moth pub posted on Facebook stating "due to an incident that occurred at the pub last night, we are unable to trade today.

"We will be back up and running tomorrow from 11am. If you have a booking with us you will be contacted soon by a member of our team.

"Sorry for any inconvenience caused."

The pub was unable to provide further details, but Greene King has been approached for further information.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said two fire engines attended and crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

They were on the scene for around an hour and confirmed the fire was being treated as suspicious.

Second suspected arson attack at Tiger Moth pub in Chatham.

A car fire outside a pub, which was targeted by arsonists three months ago, is thought to have been started deliberately.

The vehicle was destroyed by the fire in the car park of the Tiger Moth pub in Highview Drive, Chatham.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of Saturday and is being treated as "suspicious".

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters were called at 4am to reports of a car alight in a pub car park off Highview Drive, Chatham.

"One fire engine attended and crews used compressed air foam to extinguish the flames. No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious."

Crews were at the scene until 4.50am.

In May, the pub, which is opposite Horsted Retail Park, was forced to shut after the entrance and interior was set alight while customers were inside.

Police said two glass bottles containing fuel were thrown at the doorway of the hostelry.

Everyone got out safely and nobody was hurt in the incident at closing time on the night of Thursday, May 5.

It led to a fire which blocked the doorway causing damage to the entrance and interior of the pub.

The landlords closed the next day to carry out repairs.

A police investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man at an address in Chatham on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life the following evening. He remains under investigation.

A second man, aged 21 and from Chatham, was arrested on suspicion of arson on June 12 and also remains under investigation.

A woman, who described herself as a manager said after this latest incident: "No comment. We will not be discussing this further.’
