GREENWICH POLICE COURT. Monday.

Police Information's.

Mr. Traill was engaged some time in hearing summonses taken out against the following Licensed Victuallers, for opening their homes for the sole of liquors during prohibited hours on the previous Sunday morning:—

James Herbert, landlord of the "Two Brewers," Deptford, the offence consisting in supplying beer and spirits to a number of persons in an unoccupied house adjoining his premises; being the first, summons issued against the defendant, a fine of 40s. and costs was imposed.

Kentish Mercury, Saturday 14 May 1881.

Mr. S. Lynch applied for the transfer of the "Two Brewers," Deptford. He appeared on behalf of the freeholder. Mr. Hay opposed on behalf of Mr. Robinson, the previous tenants. Mr. Lynch stated that Mr. Robinson had yielded up possession of the house some 12 months ago, and his client had also got judgement against him before the High Court of Chancery. The present tenant, Mr. G. A. Martin., held from his client and arrangement for 12 months with the proviso that at the end of that time he could purchase for £1,250.

Mr. Hay, on behalf of Mr. Robinson, argued that the mortgagee had no power to grant an agreement as he held the original lease. A document was produced showing the lease to have been duly passed over to the mortgagee.

The Bench said they had nothing to do with the technical questions. It appeared that Mr. Robinson had left the house and that Mr. Martin held possession under an agreement, and as his character was not impugned, the licence would be granted.
