I have also seen this addressed as Belle Grove Road, East Wickham I have reference to an "Anchor and Hope" addressed in East Wickham. The records of 1939 addressed this as in Bexley.

Alexander Hampton was the son of Alexander Hampton senior who was licensee of the "White Hart," Erith.

Suicide at Plumstead.

An inquest was held at the Woolwich Workhouse on Saturday evening, on the body of George Miller, age 21, late potmen at the "We Anchor in Hope" public house, Welling.

The deceased was found lying dead in a ditch at Clock House Farm, near that public house. Part of his head was shot away and there was a discharged gun by his side, the trigger being attached to his foot by a handkerchief. He had been drinking heavily of light.

A verdict of "Suicide whilst temporarily insane" was returned.
