DARTFORD POLICE COURT. LICENSING.

On the application of Mr. Ridley, the license of the "Anchor in Hope" public house, Crockenhill, was transferred from the late landlord to John Clifton.

BOXING DAY CELEBRATIONS.

John Clifton, of the "Anchor and Hope," Crockenhill, Eynsford, was summoned for permitting drunkenness on his licensed premises, on December 26th, and Samuel Groombridge was charged with being drunk on licensed premises. Defendant and another man were found drunk on Clifton's premises by the police.

Mr. Clinch, who defended, submitted that guilty knowledge was not brought home to Clifton.

Clifton was convicted and ordered to pay the costs, the magistrates cautioning him to discontinue his dangerous custom of giving beer on Boxing Day. Groombridge was fined 1s. and the costs.

 

One time part of the Kidd's brewery tied estate, who were bought out by Courage in 1937.

The pub stood opposite the "Chequers" and was open till 1953 when it was closed due to sinkholes in the area and the pub and street were demolished shortly afterwards due to health and safety issues.
