59 High Street Pelham Gravesend 01474 329179
The building as a public house can been traced back to as early 1686 when it was known as the "Cutter," but has changed name on many occasions through it's history. It became known as the "General Wolfe" in 1720 and remained with that name till 1779 where it appears to have been closed for two years, to reopen again in 1781 as the "Admiral Boscowen." In 1836 it changed once again to be renamed the "Albion Tavern." The premises after being damaged by fire in 1992 under that name, was renovated and opened as the "Buffalo's Head" in 1994. That lasted to 2008 where it once again changed name to the simple sounding "Bar 59" taking the name from the street number, and as far as I know it is still operating under that name today. (2014) Just received an email in April 2016, saying that it appears to have change at some time to a premises called "Cutters at 59" now closed, but I don't know whether this was a pub or hair-dressers.
2016. I believe this is now going under the name of "Cutters at 59."
Think I was wrong with that last statement. It now (March 2017) appears to be closed as a public house, but has had a makeover and is now operating as some kind of offices called Ironmongery Innovations Ltd.
