The "Belle Vue" also had housed with it an observatory. Previous to it being a licensed premises it was the miller's house. The pub closed in 1897 and the Corporation bought the top of the hill from John Russell. Unfortunately the building burnt down during the celebrations of the relief of Mafeking, which would have taken place around May 1900.
