The Kentish Mercury reported that this held a full license in 1908.

 

From the Borough of Greenwich Free Press, 29 September, 1855.

James Gray and Alfred Barnes were charged with uttering counterfeit shillings at the shop of Mr. Ashdown, grocer, of Thomas street, and at the "Earl of Warwick Tavern."

It appeared from the evidence of Police-constable Westbrook that on the previous evening the prisoners were acting in concert together and offered bad shillings at various shops, but the same were refused.

The prisoners were remanded for a week with an intimation that they would then be committed for trial.

 

From the Borough of Greenwich Free Press, 6 October, 1855.

James Clay and Alfred Barnes remanded on a charge of uttering counterfeit coin, were again, placed at the bar.

It appeared that the prisoners had passed a bad shilling at the shop of Mr. Ashdown, in Thomas street, and a counterfeit half-crown at a shop at Old Charlton. They also attempted to pass a counterfeit half-crown at the "Earl of Warwick" public house, but in this instance they did not succeed.

Police constable Westbrook proved apprehending the prisoners who were now committed tor trial.
