Upper Wickham Lane / Brickfields Hill in 1861 East Wickham
Built in 1860 with three other cottages in the area by the first licensee, Mr. William Dawson. Dawson had links to the local brickmaking industry and the early address was known as New Brickfields. Licensee William Pigeon Howard improved the premises in 1874 and a grand stone inscription M & B was added to the top of the facade, representing the brewers Mitchell and Beasley.
