There is reference to an old building prior to 1929 which I believe the above photo to show, and a new building after 1929.

The name was derived from the fact their garden area was used for archery practise.

Gravesend. Pocket Picking.

On Tuesday last, a purse containing a half-sovereign, half-crown and a six-pence, was stolen from the person of Miss Dale, daughter of Mr. Dale, of the "Hit or Miss," on the Shore, Gravesend, supposed while she was crossing the Town Pier. Also on Thursday last the sum of 5s. 4d. in silver was stolen from the person of Miss Outred, residing at the "Hit or Miss."

Mary Loft, deceased.

Notice is hereby given that all person's having any claim upon the estate of Mary Loft, late of the "Hit or Miss Tavern," Marine Parade, Gravesend, in the county of Kent, Tavern Keeper, Widow, deceased, (who died on the first day of March, 1880, and whose will was proved by Stephen Sunnucks, the younger, and Charles William Tadman, the Executors thereof, on the 22nd day of March, 1880, in the Principal Registry of the Probate Division of Her Majesty's High Court of Justice), are hereby required forthwith to send the particulars of their Claims to us; and all person's indebted to the said deceased are hereby required forthwith to pay the amount of their debts to us.

Dated this 13th day of May, 1880.
