1-2 Anglesea Place

Gravesend

Above picture showing the building as three cottages, date unknown.

Starting life as the "Marquis of Anglesea" then changing name to simply the "Anglesea Arms" then in 1880 it reverted back to the "Marquis of Granby" again. However in 1910 it changed name away from the Anglesea theme to the "Railway Bell."

On development into a pub it was named after Henry Paget - 1st Marquess of Anglesea who was a friend and patron of a local auctioneer who developed the area.

Henry Paget was alongside Wellington at Waterloo when he uttered the words: "By God, sir, I've lost my leg!" — to which Wellington replied, "By God, sir, so you have!"
