POISONED BY MISTAKE.

Mr. G. Collier, the Deputy Coroner for West Kent held an inquest at the "Olive Branch," Lewisham, touching the death of Mrs. Marian Gridley, aged 30, the wife of an engineer, of Trinity Cottage, Albion-street. On Friday last the deceased, who was an invalid suffering from consumption, sent her servant for some groceries and other articles, amongst them two pennyworth of carbolic acid. These were brought, and the girl inadvertently left the bottle on a box beside the deceased's bed. Half an hour later the lady was found to be dying, and it became evident that she had taken the carbolic acid, probably in mistake for port wine, some of which was beside her in a similar bottle. A doctor was sent for and emetics given, but death ensued shortly after.

The jury after some discussion returned a verdict of "Poisoned by misadventure," adding a recommendation that all poisons should be sold in bottles peculiar in colour or form, and different from those in ordinary use.
