Above photo, showing the Painters Arms looking toward on the right
Skelton lane. Now Roan Street. The Painter Arms was first known to me by
just 2 Churchfields house, owner Messingham Shepherd 1727-1784. He was a
carpenter also my husbands 6 X Grandfather. He built it, so it started
life as a home not a pub, It has been many thing's over the years a pub
is just one. I heard a story that it was called the "Painter's Arms"
after a man named John Painter who was a Churchwarden at St Alfeges.
