Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser, Monday 27 November 1865.

Caution to Beer Sellers.

Thomas Treaherne, keeper of the "Royal Sovereign" beer house, New Road, was summoned by Police Constable Kissock, for having on the premises Monday night had his house open at half past 12 o'clock.

Superintendent White said the house bore a rather bad character, and the Bench ordered the defendant to pay a fine of 5s. and 6s. 6d. costs.

From the Gravesend Reporter, North Kent and South Essex Advertiser, Saturday 23 September, 1871.

James Palmer and Samuel Johnson, of Northfleet, were charged in conjunction with a man named Bardoe, not in custody, with stealing two live tame rabbits and a fowl from the “Royal Sovereign” beerhouse, New Road, on the previous Monday.

Johnson was apprehended at Northfleet and Palmer at the “Royal Sovereign” with the stolen property in his possession. It appeared that the parties had been drinking together at the house in question, and Palmer now stated that he did not know anything of the robbery until he got home, when he found the rabbits and fowl had been left there by Bardoe, who stated he had got them from the “Royal Sovereign.” He (prisoner) thought it right the owner should have them and returned with them to the house for that purpose.

Johnson said he knew nothing of the affair.

The prisoners were remanded till Friday.

Johnson being admitted to bail.
