GRAVESEND. BOROUGH QUARTER SESSIONS.

On Friday the Christmas Sessions were held before Standish Grove Grady, Esq., the Recorder of the borough.

William Smith was charged with stealing monies from the till of Mr. James Munns, of the "Shakepeare," Milton-road.

It appeared that prisoner and others had some beer at the house, and the former was seen to take some money out the till by Mr. Munns, but prisoner made off and escaped then, but was taken into custody a little more than a week after. In cross-examination by prisoner, witness said she saw him again on the Friday following, at the court.

Prisoner was also identified by Mr. Munns as the individual who was in his house on the night in question.

Prisoner tried to persuade the jury that the mistake in the day made by Mr. Munns, was fatal to the case for the prosecution, but the Recorder haring summed up, the jury at once pronounced a verdict of guilty, and the prisoner was sentenced to two months’ hard labour.
