ACCIDENT.

On Thursday night, about 9 o'clock, as Mr. Charles Whitehead, of West Farleigh, was coming out of the “Star Hotel Yard”, Maidstone, in his dog-cart, the axle-tree snapped asunder, and one of the wheels came off, and Mr. Whitehead was thrown onto the footpath, the groom being pitched out behind. The horse started to bolt down the street, and the cart, coming in contact with a lamp post near the Savings' bank, was shattered to pieces, and was also the glass of the lamp. The horse, with the shafts, continuing its course, and when opposite Mr. S. Day's fell into a heap of mud, where it was stopped, the only accident it had sustained being a cut on one side. We are happy to say that Mr. Whitehead escaped unhurt, but his groom was much bruised and shaken. The accident appears to have been caused by an extensive flaw in the axle-tree.

Project 2014 has been started to try and identify all the pubs that are and have ever been open in Kent. I have just added this pub to that list but your help is definitely needed regarding it's history.

As the information is found or sent to me, including photographs, it will be shown here.

Thanks for your co-operation.
