This is a Wetherspoon's pub open on 24 November 1998. The name of this Wetherspoon pub recalls the Summoner from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, who promises to 'telle tales of friars, ere I come to Sittingbourne'. In medieval times, the town was a well-known stopping place for pilgrims on their way to Canterbury.
