The "White Post" closed around 2006/2007, it's fate finally sealed when a
digger driver, who allegedly spoke little English misunderstood his
instructions to clear some of the land around the pub, and ploughed into
what was left of the building demolishing it.

Coroner’s Inquests.
Yesterday week an inquest was held before E. A. Hilder, Esq., at the
"White Post Inn," on the body of Thomas King, aged 63, the
leaseholder and occupier of the above house, as well as the "Black
Horse," High-street, who died suddenly at the "White Post," where he
had resided for some time past. It appeared that he rose about two
o’clock in the morning, complaining of a pain in the stomach; some
brandy was given him, and the doctor was sent for, but he expired
before medical aid could be obtained. Dr. Russell made a post mortem
examination, and found the lungs were blackened by blood, the heart
diseased, and death caused by congestion.
A verdict of "Natural death" was returned.

FIRE DESTROYS DERELICT PUB.
TWO fire crews were still battling a blaze that broke out in a
derelict pub on Wednesday morning.
Four fire crews spent three hours dousing the flames at the "White
Post" Pub, in Pelham Road, which started at about 11.30pm on Tuesday.
Firefighters from Thames-side, Swanscombe, Dartford and Larkfield
fire stations were all called to the pub, which was 50 per cent
destroyed.
Crews set up a 20ft exclusion zone around the site and evacuated
residents from a neighbouring home which was threatened by flames
pouring out of the pub's windows.
Chris Peacock, white watch manager at Thames-side, said the incident
was being treated as suspicious and has been referred to police.
The pub's owner has been given permission by the council to convert
the former pub into houses and work had begun. |
