The Woolpack was a W E & J Rigden's Faversham Brewery tied house,
until 1922, when this company merged with George Beer's Star Brewery,
Canterbury. The newly-formed George Beer & Rigden concentrated all
production in Faversham and adopted the marketing strapline "Kent's
Best" for its beers. This photograph was taken soon after the Woolpack
got its new George Beer & Rigden signage, including a Kent's Best swing
sign. |

I am informed by Debby Lovell that during the building of the Sheppy
bridge in 1959, she was living in one of four caravans situated behind the
pub, her father was part of the building gang working for the John Howard
engineering company.
Local knowledge, further pictures, and licensee information
would be appreciated.
I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it,
but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the
information will come from.
All emails are answered.

From the Kent Herald, 15 August 1833
Iwade. Sudden death.
On Thursday evening, three men who were harvesting near Iwade, Isle of
Sheppey, went to the sign of the "Woolpack," and obtained beds for the
night. They all retired to rest in their usual health; upon two of them
rising in the morning to go to their War work, they found their
companion had died in the Night.
