The premises was operating under a Beer Licence in 1872 and was owned by (Messrs Truman Hanbury & Co) Robert Hanbury Charles Addington Hanbury, Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton, Bart: Edward North Buxton, Arthur Pryor and Henry Villebois.

Originally addressed as 151 Luton Road till at least 1881, by 1891 the number was 367, so I believe the road was renumbered between these dates.

LICENSEE RETIRES.

For nearly fifty-nine years the licence of the "Brickmaker's Arms," Luton Road, Chatham, has been held in the name of Smitherman, but at the end of this month the name will be changed, when the present holder, Miss M. Smitherman, will relinquish the licence. On Tuesday evening Miss Smitherman gave a supper and sing-song to some 100 male customers in the club-room. About thirty ladies were entertained in a similar manner on Wednesday. The first holder of the licence in the name of Smitherman was Miss Smitherman's father, who retained it for thirty-one years until his death. It was then taken over by his wife, who kept the house for about seventeen years until she died last June.

The pub closed in 2008 and was converted into a shop.
