The "Cock Inn," an attractive weatherboarded building dating from about 1400, stands on the long straight Heath Road between Coxheath and Langley. It is used mainly by passers-by, and so is not really in competition with the nearby "Albion."

The building which is thought to date from 1568, according to the date on the chimney breast found in the attic. At different times, three clairvoyants have identified a ghost named George!

The pub played a supporting role to Leeds Castle in the 1949 dark Ealing comedy film Kind Hearts and Coronets which starred Alec Guinness in eight roles as different members of the d'Ascoyne family.

Death.

On Wednesday last died, Mr. Chambers, master of the "Cock," at Boughton Monchelsea.

From the Kentish Gazette, 1 August 1837.

Fatal Accident.

On Thursday last, as Mr. Gransby, a respectable farmer, at Chart Sutton, was coming to Maidstone market in a light cart, the horse ran away and overturned the cart in a pond near the "Cock," at Boughton, by which Mr. Gransby was thrown out, and so severely injured that he died early the next morning. The widow of the deceased had a very narrow escape, she having refused to accompany her husband on account of the horse being apt to run away.
