From the Southeastern Gazette, 19 June 1866.
Fatal Accident.
On Saturday afternoon an enquiry took place at the “Duke’s Head,” Dunton-green,
before S. N. Dudlow, Esq., into the circumstances attending the death of
Frederick Heath, a boy eleven years old, which took place on Thursday.
It appeared that the unfortunate lad had just been taken into the
service of Mr. James Maxwell, and on Wednesday he was placed in charge
of a horse and cart, which was conveying clay between Chevening to
Chipstead. He was riding on the shafts, the cart being heavily laden,
when he endeavoured to get down, as another cart was coming in the
opposite direction, but in doing so the sleeve of his frock was caught
in a piece of iron, and when the cloth gave way he fell, the cart wheel
passing over the lower part of his body. The poor boy was removed to his
home at Dunton green, where be was attended by Mr. Worship, surgeon, of
Riverhead, but he died shortly after midnight. The jury returned a
verdict of “Accidental death.”

From the Kent and Sussex Courier, Friday 23 January 1874.
Sevenoaks. Ball at Dunton Green.
On Monday evening and annual ball was held at Mr. J. Smart's, "Duke's
Head Inn," and owing to the permission of the justices the time was
considerably extended, and the small hours passed away before the party,
which numbered about 70, separated. The Chevening Quadrille band was
engaged, and, with Mr. Smart's excellent catering, the proceedings were
of a very satisfactory character.
