PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1872-

Evening Star

Latest ????

104 Coleman Street

Chatham

Evening Star 1954

Above photo, circa 1954. Kindly sent by Rory Kehoe. Previously a tied house of Budden & Biggs' Steam Brewery, Strood, the pub became an Ind Coope pub following the 1931 takeover. This photo was taken not long after the Ind Coope & Allsopp trading style began to change in favour of just Ind Coope.

The Pigot's Directory of 1872 indicated that the premises was operating under a Beer license and was owned by James Budden of Chatham. James Budden was owner of a wine and spirit business before amalgamating with Biggs Brothers Steam brewery of Strood in 1897.

The 1882 directory gives the address as being 104 Fort Pitt Street.

Ind Coope & Co Ltd purchased the pub from Budden & Biggs Brewery Ltd by conveyance and assignment dated 23 March 1931. The pub held a beer only license.

This pub is one in the list of my "Project 2014."

As such I haven't found a picture of the pub, and have no other information. Local knowledge, further pictures, and licensee information would be appreciated.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

All emails are answered.
