The Pigot's Directory of 1872 indicated that the premises was operating under a Beer license and was owned by James Budden of Chatham. James Budden was owner of a wine and spirit business before amalgamating with Biggs Brothers Steam brewery of Strood in 1897. The premises was built in 1856, part of a terrace called Pembroke place; it shut down in 1919 due to a lack of trade and was later demolished to allow widening of "new road". Ind Coope & Co Ltd purchased the pub from Budden & Biggs Brewery Ltd by conveyance and assignment dated 23 March 1931. The pub held a full license. There is also a "New Lord Raglan" situated in Pembroke Place.
