Pigot's Directory of 1828 and 1832 call this the "Old St. George."

Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser, 29 January, 1839.

On Wednesday last an inquest was held at the "Old George Inn," Chatham, before R Hinde, coroner, and a respectable jury, on the body of Charles Fuller, age 54 years, by trade a tailor, who destroyed himself on the previous day, and as it was quite apparent that extreme poverty had shaking his intellect, a verdict was returned that the deceased destroy himself by hanging, while in a state of temporary mental derangement.

APPLICATIONS FOR LICENSEES.

Mr. Dell, of the "Old George," Globe Lane, Chatham, who was not in attendance when the general licenses were granted, was reprimanded by the Bench; he had recently been informed against for having his house open at unlawful hours on a Sunday; if it occurred again, the next application for a license might be refused.

The "Old George" was demolished some time in the second half of the 1970's as part of a road widening scheme. It was noted for its ornate mirrors and pianola at the bar.

From an email received 13 September 2020.

I remember this pub well from my childhood days. My mum and dad used to help out there and I remember being allowed to pedal the piano to make it play music. I remember they had a dog that would catch the bottle tops. My dad is a distant cousin of Richard Wraith. We didn’t know that at the time.
