The "Phoenix" was originally just a beer-shop (off-license) but eventually became a beer-house in the 19th century, it was situated half way up Red Hill on the right and today is a private residence. The pub closed on the 21st January 1957, it was sold for £1200. It took its name from the Phoenix Brewery in the village.
