The pub is situated a good 400m from the railway station, and at one time was a pub and bakery and also hosted the post office.

One time a Mason's tied house, but the brewery was bought out by Shepherd Neame in 1956 and the brewery was subsequently closed and demolished.

I believe the Shepherd Neame pub was closed in August 2014 and sold in 2015 and was converted into a residential property.
