Originally a private house that was converted into a pub and gained its license in the 1960s.

The pub appears to have dropped the Sheerwood off it's name from between 2014 and 2019 and is now known simply as the "Oak."

During the 1990s the pub had their own football team that played in the Medway Sunday League that was managed by the landlord whose first name was Malcolm.
